
Laurence Frommer
President
Laurence Frommer is a recipient of the Historic Districts Council Grassroots Preservation award twice for efforts in northern Chelsea for the Coogan Building and Hopper Gibbons House Underground Railroad and African American History Sight. Laurence Frommer is also a former Tucker Ashworth Fellow at the Municipal Art Society. His work has engaged issues of social equity, social services, the future of infrastructure investment, zoning reform, transit oriented development, historic preservation, and the leveraging of the arts for urban vitality. Laurence is a member of the Housing & Neighborhood Revitalization Committee of the American Planning Association’s New York Metro Chapter and advocates for housing geared towards the needs of the disabled. Laurence has worked extensively with homeless at-risk youth and those struggling with mental illness and is committed to finding better housing and service solutions and accommodations to their particular needs. He was an organizer of a landmark conference on fostering sustainable construction methods at the CUNY Graduate Center in 2004 and the subsequent CUNY Sustainable Building Initiative. He is a contributing author to 20/20 Vision: Smart Growth for the New York Metropolitan Region” (Revson). Laurence has been associated with the Ivy Brown Gallery for several years and is committed to keeping New York a place that makes new creative talent flourish.

Cher Carden B.A., M.Ed., C.A.C, C.T. is a wellness consultant and spiritual life coach. She is also an intuitive reader, artist and educator who offers assistance to health seekers through a variety of services. Cher has a bachelor's in Fine Arts and holds an M. Ed in personal counseling. As a Certified Alcoholism Counselor she served as an educator/counselor in New Jersey from 1982 to 1986. Upon moving to NYC in 1986, Cher expanded her services to include more spiritual, creative and self-empowerment concepts. After surviving cancer twice, she discovered through her own experience, the importance of releasing limiting concepts of self, coupled with learning wellness education. Presently, Cher is a colon therapist and artist using all of her education skills and wellness applications to help her clients maintain optimal health.
For the past ten years, Cher became a tenant advocate. Having survived the threat of losing her tenancy, she became a very active member of tenant and small business programs here in Chelsea helping tenants to protect their residences.
